Gallery of Still Life Paintings Proudly Made by Art Smart Students

Much of what we’ve done in our summer art workshops this year is still life painting. Still life painting is a major theme and technique in painting at Art Smart as it teaches students to be confident and be the sole conductor of their own art. In this article, we'll share with you some of the key benefits of painting from still life and why you should do it as you practice your command of the paint brush. But first (and as promised in this article's title), check out this gallery of still life paintings excellently made by very own Art Smart artists! It cannot be stressed further how proud we are of them.

Still life painting has no time constraints

Unless of course you’re rushing to meet a deadline, painting from still life allows you to enjoy your time connecting yourself with the subject and putting life into it on your blank canvas. Good to note also that since your subject is not moving, you can take your absolute time drawing and  painting from real life. Just imagine the time constraints when you're painting a human model expected to just sit still for an hour.

Start with any subject you can find or think of as you get started with still life painting whether that subject is a vase of flowers, a plate of donuts, or a shelf of empty bottles!

More importantly, painting from still life allows you to discern your subject for what it truly is. You can take your time focusing and taking note of its shape, its lighting, and its form — important details that allow you to better represent your subject on your painting.

Still life painting allows you to communicate a theme

Like these paintings of our students that we shared above, you can very well identify what the setting or feeling was when the painting was created. A plate of croissant and a cup of tea was painted on a rainy afternoon. A pitcher of water and a bowl of fruits painted (most likely!) in a solitary corner of the kitchen. Red peppers lined up creates a familiar scene in a cook’s life. A story can be easily made up just by looking intently and making a still life painting!

Still painting means you’re the conductor of your own art

We’ve mentioned this already and we’ll say it again. More than the techniques mastered through constant practice, what we want to instill in our art students is the confidence in their own work of art. When students are allowed to paint from still life (no matter what the subject is), it harnesses their techniques, their understanding of their chosen subject and its relation to colors , tones, and light. It also gives them an opportunity to completely stand by their own definition of beauty and art.

500 Shaw Zentrum: Mon-Fri 10am -6pm and Sat 2pm-6pm
Marikina near Eastwood City: WF 10am-6pm and Sat 9am-12noon

With these art class schedules in place, you may opt to do classes twice or thrice a week (12-1hr / 8-1.5hrs/ 6-2hrs/ 4-3hrs) depending on your convenience. Other days will also be opened in class slots are full so please stay tuned for class schedule updates on the Art Smart Facebook page.

Our fee of 8,500 pesos are all inclusive of art materials.
