Sofia Puno, 15 years old , has been with ART SMART for 3 consecutive summers . She comes every summer for art class or on other school breaks when has free time. With the greater demands of schools to the children as they get old, it's a deliberate effort for them to do extra curricular activities such as art classes, ballet classes and sports .

Sofia has been following a module in ART SMART and her progress was very evident in this Mother and Child painting . The strokes were carefully done, showing her passion for art . Aside from the fact that she was inspired in this painting, i believe it also reflects her character. A bit of a perfectionist ,if I may say , which works for her as she does her paintings . So far , this is one of my favorite Mother and Child paintings for this year ! Well done , Sofia !

"Sophia started her art program in Art Smart during the last summer break and has continued on every weekend. She has truly enjoyed every session and she always looks forward to the next one . They have different themes/modules which really keeps the kids interested and engaged. Together with the guidance of great instructors like Teacher Aubrey and her team , not only do they get to have fun and paint , I believe it helps develop their confidence , patience and attention to detail while fostering a greater appreciation for art in general .

Art Smart has a wide age range of students who attend for a variety of reasons. We have mommies who come to de-stress. We have adults who are frustrated artists , and those who have regretted not attending formal art lessons when they were much younger . They are now finding time to deliberately do art since many are recognizing it's therapeutic effect in our fast-paced and stressful lifestyles.

Kids can be stressed as well when we bombard them with our academic standards, foregoing the creativity that God has instilled in each person . We all have an ability to create, to express ourselves , for others, it's through lines and colors. Art Smart currently has a handful of 4 year-old children who come to paint, draw and do art on a once or twice a week basis . This age range (4-6 years old ) is the best time to start the kids because they have no inhibitions . They are more in tune with their creativity and imagination . They like to play and allow room for mistakes , and that makes it easier to teach them . They are sponges, ready to absorb the techniques , principles and lessons. Their strokes become automatic as they are exposed to art earlier in life .
