7 Unique Habits of Artists to Help You Unleash Your Creative Juices

There's this quote that goes "The expert at anything was once a beginner", and this could never be farther from the truth when it comes to the arts. While some believe that creativity is something that a person is born with, here at Art Smart, we believe that everyone has the capacity to be a creative person and be truly passionate about it as time goes by.

To become a fantastic artist, you do not only need tons and tons of practice, exposure and art classes, but you need habits too to keep you motivated and inspired to go on.

In this article, we will discuss 7 unique habits that artists have that can help you unleash your creative juices.
7 Unique Habits of Artists to Help You Unleash Your Creative Juices

Let go of the idea of perfection

While striving for perfection can be a powerful motivation, consider letting go of it. Sometimes, when you allow yourself not to be bound by any rules, you get to explore your limits and your imagination can roam around freely and influence your project. Allow yourself to have fun! Art is the ultimate expression of yourself. Silence your inner critic and just let the creative juices flow.

Give yourself a break

Especially when you encounter that very familiar creative block, step away from your art project and give yourself time to just give your mind and your heart a break. Consider overcoming artist's block by treating yourself out in the park, read a good book or go out for a run - anything that you can do that will take your mind off that thing you are so hard-pressed to finish.

Talking to the right people also helps in keeping your energies up even at times that you just feel like giving up. When your mind and heart finally gets a rest, it can do splendid wonders for your creativity. Take time for solitude - you need and deserve it.

Scribble your ideas as they enter your mind

Sometimes, your greatest idea comes to you at the most random of times and places. When you finally hit that great idea you've been searching for, write it down! Always keep your journal and pen close by or simply jot it down using your phone.

As you keep note of them, review them down the line. Feel free to remove ideas that seem too far-fetched or unattainable to you at this point. Put your workable ideas into action and then start working!

Whenever in doubt, ask for help

It's so easy to go around in circles with yourself when the easiest way to know the answers to your perplexing questions can come from someone else.

Don't be afraid to ask for help. Regardless if your network of friends is small, you can always refer to your few trusted people for some advice. Asking fellow artists for recommendation is a great way to solve your problems. It's humbling, yet totally effective.

Don't be afraid to go through challenges

Sometimes, it is in our challenges that we get to be the best versions of ourselves. When faced with a problem, we get to search deep into our minds for a solution, and before we know it, we've created our best piece of artwork to date.

When things do not go your way, don't think about it as a barrier to your success. Be truly creative in your search to find the solution to your predicament. Be persistent in the face of adversity.

Keep that passion for art burning alive

Again, like in any discipline or craft, there will always be problems and challenges to overcome. Your passion in art will keep you through and that is very important as you emerge a better artist every single day.

Consider the barriers to your success simply as detours. Attend your art classes, listen to your critics and take them constructively.

Seek out new experiences

Don't be afraid to expose yourself to new experiences and different states of mind. When you are open to learn new things, this helps foster your creative output.

Explore what your inner and outer world has to offer you. Use these as inspiration for your next art project or craft. Treat everything that happens in your life as an inspiration. After all, it is our experiences that shape who we are and what we can create with our hands.
