5 Reasons Learning a New Craft is Awesome

Did you know that almost 8 in 10 people are willing to quit their jobs just so they can learn a craft?

At least that's what this article says and among the respondents it fielded, they said that learning a new craft is therapeutic for them - a great way to counteract the daily stress of an office job. But more than the calmness and relief it brings, learning a new craft has so many things to offer. Check out our five reasons below! And if you have more to add, we'd love to hear them in the comments below :)
5 Reasons Learning a New Craft is Awesome

It hones focus and concentration

No one is ever to young or too old to hone their ability to focus and concentrate on an activity that's happening in front of them. By learning a new craft or attending a craft class, you can hone these two important qualities while minimizing your distractions and mastering your command of the tools you need to use. These two qualities will also guide you and make you finish a craft project from start to finish.

Helps kids follow directions

Start kids young with crafts! Being able to follow directions is a skill that is essential in life and it can be encouraged by guided classes like arts and crafts. While one may argue that art should foster one's imagination and independence, the capacity to follow basic art instructions should be at the core of any arts and crafts class.

It's a great way to learn a new language

And this applies to almost any type of craft or hobby you have in mind. For instance,  "shutter speed", "ambient light", "nanometer" and "capture plane" are words common among photographers. "Surrealism", "medium", and "acrylic" are common sayings among painters and artists. Learning a new craft introduces you to a set of words or jargon only you and your co-crafters will know the meaning of.

A great way to exercise patience

Mastering a new craft takes time. Hence, it is a great venue to exercise patience. Even a craft project can't be finished within five hours. If you choose a complicated pattern for a cross-stitching project, expect that to be finished in five days or one week tops. If you are into pot planting, you can't expect your plant to grow immediately the next day. You have to give it ample time to grow and to see the fruits of your labor.

But mind you, patience pays off in any craft or hobby you immerse yourself into. The results truly make up for it!

Trains you in problem solving

The beauty of learning a new craft is being able to experiment with different kinds of materials and troubleshooting a project if things do not work out as you expect. The idea of being able to focus on solutions and not on problems is a great result of doing arts and crafts and is more than applicable in day-to-day life!
